and I was glad to easily spot my ride at 3 a.m. in Bole airport. I
thanked him profusely for picking me up at such an obscene hour, but
he was kind and obliging, and didn't seem to hold it against me.
Since then, I've been spending my days with my gracious hosts, tagging
along on Saturday chores, reading in the living room, and sleeping in
that sporadic, jetlagged sort of way. I've also been searching my
brain for something insightful to report, but have opted instead to
send this mindless update rather than wait for coherency. Addis feels
very familiar - same scents of incense, coffee, and burning garbage,
same chaps selling bootleg films on Bole Road, same afternoon
thunderstorms.
On Monday I'll head back to the office, where I'm looking forward to
seeing many familiar faces, and (hopefully) gaining some sense of what
my summer will entail. I think a sense of purpose will be welcome by
then...
